We made history by holding Paddock Wood’s first choir rehearsal by Zoom in April 2020, as part of the Sing Together project during the Covid-19 pandemic.
New singing groups
The plan for 2021 is to welcome everyone into the Paddock Wood Community Voices group, singing for joy and wellbeing. As we are not currently able to meet in person, we will start off our meetings online via Zoom.
This will be our opportunity to have fun, bond together and create music from the comfort of our own homes! Once we are able to meet, you will have the choice whether you would like to carry on as an online singing group, or meet in person to sing! I will ensure we can do both, when the time is right!
How much will this cost?
The group is intended to be accessible to all. The first term will be free of charge, with a ‘virtual tip jar’ (this uses Paypal) which I respectfully request you click below, to optionally donate towards my running costs. Suggested amount is anything from £1 to £5 per week. You are welcome to attend both sessions I currently offer; no extra payment is expected – the more the merrier!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the format of a session?
- Meet and greet, making sure everyone is online and all tech issues sorted.
- Physical and vocal warmups.
- Quick break to ensure everyone is ready to sing – a chance to get a drink or whatever you need to do while Sue shares the Songbook to the screen!
- Singing from the Songbook – Sue likes to operate by request, so everyone gets a choice.
- Chat to warm down.
What songs do you sing? Can I request a particular song?
When you sign up to the mailing list via the button at the top or bottom of this page, you will receive a password for the webpage that contains the songbook (which is at https://versatilevocals.co.uk/pwcv-songbook/) when Sue sends out the weekly Zoom invitations. This will give you time to peruse the book and choose in advance what you might like to sing. Depending on numbers in the group, we may not have time for all requests, but we will try to keep track! There are a great many songs in the book, but please do make suggestions! Any suitable songs will be considered.
Will I be put on the spot to perform?
No! This is a fun singing group – we do not put pressure on anyone to perform or unmute. However, Sue believes that collective singing and hearing each other in an ensemble is a powerful thing, which some would like to maintain. Thus, she encourages people to ‘unmute’ during various parts of songs, but ONLY if they want to. Be prepared though – the limitations of the technology, AKA latency, means that we are not able to all sing together at once – and sometimes this can become a bit of a cacophony! The slower songs tend to be more successful.
I live in XYZTown – can I still join?
Yes – all are welcome to the Zoom sessions.
Is there an end-project or performance?
This rather depends on what the group would like to do. Sue has made several virtual choir videos, so this would definitely be a possibility. However, this would have to come at a separate cost, as they take an amazing amount of time and effort! Please see here for an example: http://bit.ly/HITW-CL
Do I have to come to every session?
No, the groups are structured on a drop-in basis, so come to as many or as few as you like – but Sue hopes you will want to join in every week, for maximum joy! If we do a project, you will get more practice if you come along regularly.
What happens post-Covid/once everyone is vaccinated? Will we meet in person?
This is something that will be up for discussion when the time comes. Sue very much wants to continue the groups online, as she understands that there are people that are not able, or do not want, to leave their homes. Therefore, any groups that meet in person will be in addition to the online sessions. However, these groups will have to have a fixed termly fee, as there will be costs such as hall hire and insurance to factor in.
Neither day suits me – will you offer any other days?
This all rather depends on the popularity of the groups – as we are just starting out, the days could be flexible if another day is more suitable for everyone.
